Conservatives relieved that liberal republican candidate has suspended her campaign for Congress

by Pendra Lee Snyder CCN-USA

CCN-USA-This morning Dede Scozzafava, Republican Party candidate for Congress in New York's 23rd Congressional District, suspended her campaign.

She has been referred to as a moderate Republican by main stream media and even endorsed in this campaign by New Gingrich, but conservatives vocalized their dissatisfaction with her liberal record on abortion, homosexual rights and fiscal issues.

As reported this morning in the New York Times, “Dede Scozzafava, said she was suspending her campaign in the face of collapsing support and evidence that she was heading for a loss in a three-way race on Tuesday involving a conservative candidate, Douglas Hoffman, and a Democrat, Bill Owens.

Doug Hoffman has received endorsements from Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee and various conservative organizations, including the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund and the Club for Growth, the first political action committees to endorse Doug Hoffman for Congress on September 28, 2009.

The Susan B. Anthony Communications Director Joy Yearout told CCN-USA this afternoon that her organization has had over 200 volunteers on ground to support Hoffman since early fall, and they will be continuing thanks to today’s action, keeping the momentum for the conservative candidate.

Yearout said, “This came as a complete surprise and it took Dede courage to do what she did today and we are grateful. We believe Conservative Republican Doug Hoffman can and will win this race."

She added, “Now it's time for the GOP to step up. On behalf of conservative voters, activists, and volunteers across the district, I call on the national GOP to finally throw its full support and resources behind Doug Hoffman for Congress. A Hoffman victory is within sight."

According to a press release this morning, the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List has spent over $125,000 in the race so far, including over $50,000 in pro-Hoffman radio ads.
