A Christian Manifesto - Part 5, A Clear and Present Danger

by Ron Cooper Founder Ark Foundation

What are you willing to pay to escape disaster? Today the atheistic doctrine of separation of church and state is used to silence the church and is a USA Constitutional disaster. This doctrine was part of the foundation used by the Soviet Union (USSR) Constitution to effectively silence and persecute all non-atheistic religions. Millions of Christians died in the Twentieth Century under this doctrine in the USSR, China, Cambodia, and other socialist countries.

As Franky Schaeffer V says (1980) in the Plan for Action: “It has been convenient and expedient for the secular humanist, the materialist, the so-called liberal, the feminist, the genetic engineer, the bureaucrat, the Supreme Court Justice, to use this arbitrary division between church and state as a ready excuse. It is used, as an easily identifiable rallying point, to subdue the opinions of that vast body of citizens who represent those with religious convictions.”

William Bentley Ball believes that “secularism militates against religious liberty, and indeed against personal freedoms generally, for two reasons: first, the familiar fact that secularism does not recognize the existence of the ‘higher law’; second, because, that being so, secularism tends toward decisions based on pragmatic public policy of the moment and inevitably tends to resist the submitting of those policies to the ‘higher’ criteria of a constitution.”

He emphasizes two general constitutional concepts. “First is where the legislative power hands over its power to agents through the conferral of regulatory power unaccompanied by strict standards. The second is where the agents make up powers on their own – assume powers not given them by the legislature. Under the first, the government of laws largely disappears and the government of men largely replaces it. Under the second, agents’ personal ‘homemade’ law replaces the law of the elected representatives of the people.”

Mr. Ball (a lawyer) concludes: “Fundamentally, in relation to personal liberty, the Constitution was aimed at restraint of the State. Today, in case after case relating to religious liberty, we encounter the bizarre presumption that it is the other way around; that the State is justified in whatever action, and that religion bears a great burden of proof to overcome that presumption.” Therefore, he says, “It is our job, as Christian lawyers, to destroy that presumption at every turn.”

For those of us who are not lawyers, what price can we pay? One, support the lawyers who can and do. Examples are: The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), Liberty Counsel, Center for Individual Freedom, and Awaken America, Inc. (local to Ohio and run by lawyer, Eric Stamps). Second, as an informed voter, know the stand of the candidates and vote for right. Third, as a juror, know that the Constitution empowers you to vote against bad laws by not convicting people of them!

Our founders have warned us to guard our Constitution. From their clear warnings to the present dangers you have just read about, you should be ready to prevent disaster from coming. This is a daily work, just like eating. What you feed and support will grow. Others will support their views. This is a war of worldviews. Is yours getting support in schools, universities, government, law and justice, your church, and your home - from you?
