Why Not Women?
A Fresh Look at Scripture on Women, In Missions, Ministry, and Leadership Review by Chrysanthi Lee CCN-USA
Loren Cunningham and David Hamilton with Janice Rogers Reviewed by: Chrysanthi Lee Wilson Published By: YWAM Publishing
This may come as a shock to most readers but 3/4 of the believers in the Christian Church worldwide are woman and the remaining are men. Many of these women believe themselves to be called to public ministry to serve Christ but they’re worried that the church many not support them. Christianity should be last place where women should have to fear rejection of their gifts and talents but alas many churches refuse to let woman minister, let alone join the pastoral staff. Matthew 9:37-38 says, “Then he said to his disciples, the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." Women are willing to minister for the Lord but they need to be set free by their male-counterparts in the church so they can serve the Lord and the body of Christ with their ministry gifts.
The hurting all through out the world are looking into religion hungering for an answer to life’s greatest questions and women are willing to serve, teach, and minister to the needy and the church herself. With 3/4 of the church held silent the harvest will never be completed. Christianity, when lived and ministered right, is the most liberating religion and life-style for both men and women but so long as the Bible is taken out of context and read wrongly neither gender can truly be free to live according to the ways God prescribed. When women are released to serve the Lord we’ll experience hundreds of thousands of people to serve the great commission, we’ll see a stronger body of Christ, we’ll see the spirit work, and we’ll see many more come to Christ
The book is a detailed study of the life of Jesus and the apostle Paul and their beliefs of freedom for the female gender. It also covers a global outlook of women in ministry and explores the value and roles of women in Greek, Jewish, and Roman culture during the times of the early church. It also describes what’s at stake for both genders, our culture, our church, and the unreached if women are never freed to do the work God has asked them to do.
Why Not Women is a carefully constructed and researched book that when studied, opens up a whole new perceptive on women and our role in church and the family. This book will challenge the old ideas of “headship” and “leadership” in the body and at home and will give new meaning to the phase “being equal.” The evidence for equality makes this book eye-opening and liberating for 3/4 of the church who are sitting on their hands waiting for the rest of the church to let them serve.
